China's aluminum exports remain low

According to the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China, in October, national companies exported 419 thousand tons of unprocessed aluminum and aluminum products. This is 1.8% less than in September and 17% less than in the same month last year. At the end of ten months, Chinese imports of aluminum also decreased by 17% compared to January-October 2019 to about 3.98 million tons.

This summer, a favorable price ratio for Chinese companies has developed on the global aluminum market, stimulating the expansion of imports of this metal to China. In July and August, China was the first net importer of aluminum since 2009. In total, in January-September, the volume of purchases amounted to 766 thousand tons, which, however, is half as much as in 2009.

At the same time, Chinese companies imported 932 thousand tons of aluminum alloys from abroad in nine months. The previous record was equal to 243 thousand tons for the entire 2009. According to experts, this year the import of the alloy will compensate for the twofold decrease in external purchases of aluminum scrap.
